Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is the only flagship in engineering and IT science and education in Estonia, providing higher education at all levels in engineering and technology, information technology, economics, science, and maritime. TalTech’s mission is to be a promoter of science, technology, and innovation and a leading provider of engineering and economic education in Estonia.
Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) contributes to the project through FinEst Centre for Smart Cities - independent organisation under TalTech, founded in 2019 by TalTech, Aalto University, Forum Virium Helsinki and the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
The aim of the FinEst Centre for Smart Cities is to improve urban environments by testing new technologies and thereby grow into an internationally renowned research and development centre. The FinEst Centre initiates long-term smart city research and innovation activities organized around five themes: Smart Mobility, Smart Energy, and the Built Environment – tied together by the streams of Urban Analytics and Data, and Smart City Governance.
FinEst Centre has designed and opened an urban-challenge-based competition for large-scale smart city pilots by investing 15 million euros to over 10 pilots in 2021-2028, where most have at least 2 cities involved.
